Hankook is showing off its latest conceptual version of its own airless tire

Korean tyre maker Hankook revealed the fifth prototype of their non-pneumatic tyre called the iFlex. The prototype is said to have successfully completed testing the ride, handling, and high-speed driving capabilities.

According to a release, the iFlex was tested in five categories of tire performance: durability, hardness, stability, slalom and speed. The company claimed the prototype wheels stood up to standard rubber-and-air tires across the board.

"The impressive results in all five categories demonstrated that the [non-pneumatic tires] could match conventional tires in terms of performance," the press release stated.

It takes half as many steps to produce the iFlex. Additionally, the tire itself is constructed from eco-friendly materials.

It's still at the prototype stage at this point, but all of the testing and commitment to reducing the build cycle shows that Hankook is quite serious about bringing such a tire to production.

In 2014, Hankook was ranked the world's seventh-largest tire manufacturer.
